Just to keep it active

Well let's see - It's been about two years this time - I'm getting better; and I am no longer in the USofA.

I have moved to Portugal in the Algarve - Vila Real Santo Antonio to be more specific. I have been in country for coming on two months and have now found an apartment here for the next year.

So that should take care of you for awhile

After 4 Years

This blog has been unused for quite sometime.

So many things have changed in all our lives over these years and I would like to move on to something new.

I had to locate the password in order to log in, oops!

So yes, I'm alive - hope you are as well

Port Costa for the Fourth

I have discovered that I've become a little rusty in the old taking pics end of the equation, and not wanting to miss a fireworks display, I had a look around to see where I might find one in the area. Where to go for a show that might be in an interesting area. Google up and Benicia will have one on the San Joaquin River - more specifically the Carquinez Strait. I didn't want to go across the bridge and into Benicia (too crowded!) so I looked across the River for a view towards the fireworks with the water between.
That led me to discover the small town of Port Costa. It is a little village on the river that has a population of less than 200 - and everyone was out mingling and getting seats for the parade. Yeah, and real small town America Fourth of July Parade!!
I don't think I could have found a better place for the fourth (well maybe one that had a restaurant open). Everyone knows everyone else. All were friendly and welcoming and enjoying the day.

It has been around for quite sometime, though the wharf is no longer here. The warehouse is now a pub restaurant - one of two in town, that I will come back to try. Though I doubt I'll have a drink here - the only 'road' in and out is often one lane and winds though the hills.

Outdoor Post Office
No Librarian required. This is just so small town. The books are lovingly cared for and I am sure all residents keep it going.
There was a town barbecue, that was just wrapping up as I passed down the street - Needed to skip a meal anyway.

Waiting for the parade to begin

Here's the start of the parade. Yup. that's it. I am sure every year they all plan for this event and everyone in town either walked or watched. It's the real America I grew up in!!
That's it! The old and new fire truck, two horses, two kids in a wagon pulled by dad, one old pickup, an old mini tractor, the Polaris and the guy on the power wheel chair at the end!! Marvelous. I couldn't have wished for a better parade.
About 8 pm the barge came upstream and got into position for the show. Didn't want to ruch it, or they were on the clock, eh! I thought that they would put the mortars on the end of the dock, but this is much safer.
At about 9:30 the show begins.
Dueling firework shows!! Benicia on the left and Martinez on the right - across the river. Turns out they had a little longer show.
Hope you all had a very happy, healthy and safe Fourth.

I have decided not to travel this year until school is back in (except for going to Oregon to see the Solar Eclipse on 8/21 - the next one to cross the USA in in another 99 years, so I may miss that one).

Muir Beach, CA

Went to Muir Beach, which as you know is just to the North of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a beautiful Sunday and my daughter and grand daughter wanted to go for some beach time - get back into sync with the planet (my words - not theirs). We got there before the rest of SF and the Bay area folks did and after getting past the road detours and down the winding roads we got a stop to park up front - wow. Get there before 10am and you're good. Not for the hiking of Muir Woods - all the lots were full and the road shoulders as well.

Got there as kayakers were going to sea

Some had an easier time

Than others

Some just wanted to walk

Some wanted to jump the waves

Others wanted to those some weights around

Lots of kids and dogs running everywhere.
Tired "Super Duper Burger" in Mill Valley on the way back. Fabulous!!

Sometimes

Sometimes
going nowhere
looking for nothing
can become someplace
with something
in no time at all!

Happy Travels!!

WOW !!

I have not posted for awhile yet have noticed a few 'views' and thank you for that. It seems that someone out there is looking to find out if I am traveling this season and where I'll go.
Since not going to the blog for awhile it seems that Google in their infinite wisdom have changed things around and I could not log into my own blog. Constant error messages.
I did solve the problem though - I deleted Google!!
I have gotten in through Safari, and then signed in and no problem. Weird???
This has happened several times over the last couple of months and I just let it slide, but not today.

As to the photos and the travel - they are still up in the air for the moment, but the my daughter, grand daughter and I are going to the Muir Beach this Saturday to feel the ocean vibes again. It may be for only the day, but maybe the muse will whisper in my ear again and I'll get motivated to snap a few shots. I will at least get out for awhile until the generator gets repaired and Then I can go do some dry camping again.

Until then

Happy Halloween

After 142 Days, almost 20,000 miles and over 24000 images I have arrived back in California for the Fall Holidays.
Now it is time to acclimatize to being in one place for more than a day and interacting with people again. Traveling alone on the roads has a way of making one rather isolated in some ways, yet free to explore in other ways. After visiting a couple of relatives in the mid-west on the return trip, the motor home just seemed to want to get back. Hated it but just got onto I-70 to I-80 and here I am. Therefore, no new photos to show.
I have told my grand daughter that I will be here for awhile, so my next 'trips' will be short and probably to SoCal for some doctor's visits after the Holidays.
I have been looking into some Photoshop 'tricks' for making Holiday cards, so that is my next project.
Happy Holidays to all (if I don't make it back here)
