Bowdoin Wildlife Preserve

I did go to the Preserve on Sunday and hoped to get a couple of 'bird shots' with the Tamron 150-600. I don't know birds and I will let friends like Ethan and David provide the names. It was an extremely windy day (19-25MPH), but I gave it my best shot(s).
One Question did come to mind as I drove the 15 mile circuit of the marshes and lake. Why do they call this a Preserve and still allow people to come and shoot the birds at seasonal times??

Day 13 - Father's Day

Here it is Day 13 of my trip and I am in Malta, MT a little more than half way across the State and will continue East today, stopping at Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge in hopes to spot some birds and wildlife.

I was Glacier National Park for a week and all I can say is "Whoa!" If you love the forest, the fauna and the flora, you can't beat this place. Oh, I know - Yellowstone, Teton, Most of Utah, Arcadia - well we are so blessed with beautiful wilderness that has been preserved for our enjoyment and of course the protection of its inhabitants. I got to Glacier and the Going to the Sun road was closed (they opened it as I left) and the weather was mostly cold and wet. I got this old body out and hiked - more than I had in years - but I ran out of open shorter hikes. Missed many backwoods places that a hardier soul would have no problems with, but I enjoyed what I could reach. I stayed in Fish Creek on the West side to start and then moved to the East (a little dryer) and stayed at first Two Medicine campground and the moved up to Many Glacier. I skipped St Mary for maybe another time.
Let me just show you some shots and you'll see a bit of these areas and hopefully how beautiful they are.

Glacier National Park

My hope was that I would get to this Park before the rush of Summer vacationers overtook it as they reportedly have done at Yellowstone. Well, I succeeded as the park is not yet totally opened. The "Going to the Sun Road" that joins East and West in the Park is yet to open and after today's rain (Snow?) may not open this week. I did journey as far as I could up the road and then back to Fish Creek to stay last night and tonight. Not full, but very quiet - YES I shut down the generator in just a few minutes - Gees!!
Hoped for some star shots over Lake McDonald last night but socked in.

Day #6: The National Bison Range

Into Montana and heading North. Stopped off at the Bison Preserve and I am saddened to say I have 'preserved' my perfect record of NOT seeing any of the large beasts. Thank goodness for the antelope and deer, for the elk and bison were having a party somewhere else. Beautiful day though driving up the Flathead River Valley and now I'm staying the night on Lake Flathead at Big Arm State Park. Bought the Season Pass for the Montana State Parks and should be able to recoup the cost with just 3 more stays - easy.
On to Glacier NP as early as I can get going. Campsites are first come first served in the NP. Wish me luck!!
